How it works
Sermorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) — the first 29 amino acids of native human GHRH, the portion needed for biological activity. It binds GHRH receptors on the anterior pituitary and stimulates release of the body's own growth hormone (GH).
Because sermorelin works through the pituitary's existing regulatory system, GH release remains pulsatile and subject to normal negative feedback (via somatostatin and IGF-1) — unlike direct exogenous GH administration, which suppresses endogenous production.
What is known about the class
Sermorelin has a short plasma half-life (roughly 10-20 minutes). It is administered subcutaneously; response is assessed clinically and, where a provider judges useful, by IGF-1 levels.

How this medication is regulated
Compounded sermorelin is not an FDA-approved drug (the historical brand Geref was withdrawn). It is prepared by a licensed 503A compounding pharmacy under an individual prescription.
